The variator (or vario) is an important part of the transmission of your Vespa Ciao. This consists of a clutch and a final delay, in which the vario takes the role of gearbox. The difference is that a vario has an infinite number of gears (just as it used to be in the DAF cars). Almost all parts for the Ciao vario can be ordered online at JMPB Parts.

Recognize wear of the vario

The vario is in fact the automatic gearbox of your Ciao and consists of several parts, such as the adjusting mechanism with rollers and the compression spring (these ensure that the vario can adjust). And just as with all other moped parts, the vario is also vulnerable to wear and tear. For example, if the moped does not gear back smoothly, it may be that the rollers are worn out. And also the drive-belt can wear causing the engine to make more revs while the top speed is reduced.
